Family movie night returns!

Things are finally getting back to normal in the Towery household. The youngster is un-grounded (has it been a month already?) and most of our crazy everyone-is-doing-something-different-tonight crap is done for a while.

At least until Little League starts in a few weeks and even then, I don't think there are many games other than tournaments on Friday nights. And the wife, who is still struggling with her roller derby nickname, doesn't have practice on Fridays.

And me? Dude, I'm a writer. I'm always free. 'Nuff said.

So that means Family Movie Night is back, starting tonight. Hurrah!

Since we've already watched every movie from the 1980s that doesn't send me screaming for a gun or a baseball bat (many of them do, trust me), we've decided to just pick a decent movie each week (read: me pick it), fire up the popcorn and settle in for the night.

For this evening's viewing pleasure, I rented 2012 in Blu-Ray. Yes, we saw it at the theater and no, it's not that great. But you know, it wasn't that bad either. Good rental material, in other words.

Focusing on what's important

I'm not ignoring you guys. Honestly, I'm not. I've just been really busy in real life and, well, it's cut into my online life.

I know. I hate when that happens. But the past two days, I've been able to squeeze in some revising, but not much else. I spent today with my oldest son, Blaine. We had a good lunch together, a nice visit and did some hanging out. You know. Guy stuff.

Also, we received some fairly ominous news about an older family member's health yesterday and we're just sort of hoping and praying for the best, you know? Should something happen, or should his condition worsen in the next few days, it will likely require an out-of-state trip. So that's kind of hanging out there on the horizon.

I hope to work on the manuscript over the weekend. In fact, I'm not taking any days off (unless something happens. You know.) until it's done. I am trying to FOCUS on getting the revisions done. I have four beta readers waiting patiently for me to knock off the remaining eight chapters.

No family movie night tonight, since the kid is grounded for life (or least a few more days). Maybe next week, we can back to our usual Friday movie. I'm still not sure if we're staying with the '80s theme, or if I'm ready to move on to other stuff.

It's Friday!

I apologize for the marked lack of blog posts this week; I've been under the weather all week and, well, just plain tired.

Oh, and I have this shiny new video game ...

Anyway, I'm alive and well (sort of) and while I got very little actual work done, my Cubs are 6-3 in the young season in MLB 2010: The Show. That goes to prove that video games can be far more satisfying than real life.

I intend to get back to revising big-time on Monday, although the next couple of weeks will be short ones, since I will be covering the Illinois state boys basketball tournament the next two weekends (Fridays and Saturdays all day/evening) for the Associated Press. Hey, I gotta pay for that video game somehow!

We're also getting back to the Friday Family Movie Night this evening with a screening of An American Werewolf in London. I haven't seen it in years, so it will be like watching it for the first time. I only hope it doesn't frighten the 12-year-old too much. He's getting a little large to fit into our bed! (Just kidding, son. Seriously).

AAWL wasn't my first choice. That would be Night of the Comet, one of my favorite cheesy 80s flicks. But our local video store doesn't stock it, so I guess I'll order it online. In my mind, there are few better things in life than a couple of Valley Girls out to save humanity. Know what I mean?
